Beatlebob, thanks for the videos! The rehearsal one was new for me! Cool! I always loved The Traveling Wilburrys! So sad that Roy Orbison passed away while he was in that supergroup though. Now three of them are gone. :-(

Bob Dylan said in a statement to Rolling Stone: “It’s shocking, crushing news. I thought the world of Tom. He was great performer, full of the light, a friend, and I’ll never forget him.”

"Handle With Care" is a great song and so was their other hit, "End Of The Line". I Love "I Won't Back Down" too, that's one of my favorite Tom Petty songs. Thanks for sharing that video. Good to see Ringo in it too! Have a fab weekend, my friend! :-)

Beatlebob, I couldn't believe Tom Petty had full cardiac arrest at only age 66 either. But then again, Roy Orbison was only 52 when he passed away, and I think he had a fatal heart attack too? So sad!!!!! They were still too young to go, and so was George Harrison! :-( I've been listening to The Traveling Wilburys again lately. It's been so long since I last heard them and I forgot how much I loved the first album! It's funny how George suggested they name their second album "Volume 3". He said "Let's confuse the buggers.'" LOL!!! Yes, so many great songs! :-)

Sadie! Yes, hard to believe Tom Petty had full cardiac arrest at only age 66!! Yeah, I think Roy Orbison passed away from a fatal heart attack at only age 52, as well? I agree, So Sad!!! :-( They WERE still Too Young to go!!! And the same goes for George Harrison!! :-( I see you have been listening to The Traveling Wilburys again lately. It's been a long time since I heard them too!! Yes, the First Album was Great!! They Did So Many GREAT Songs!!!

LOL!!!!!! YES!!! It Is So Funny how George suggested they name their second album "Volume 3". He said "Let's confuse the buggers"!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!! ;-)
"The second (and final) record by the Traveling Wilburys surfaced in 1990, and it was to be titled “Vol. 3”. This is widely thought to be a joke suggested by George Harrison (who was the unofficial leader of the band) to send fans scrambling for an album that never was." LOL!!!!! ;-)
Thanks So Much for posting the Video!!! :-) It's a Great Song!!! And the Quality of the video is Very Good!!! :-)

I agree George Harrison was the unofficial leader of The Traveling Wilburys. I'm not sure if the band's creation was originally his idea, but I always thought of it as a sort of side project done just for fun by him and some of his famous friends. I had their first album on cassette tape. I had 2 of them actually, in case one wore out! I always bought 2 copies of my favorite tapes just to be on the safe side. Those were the good old days! :-)

I still love it! Some of my favorite tracks are "Handle With Care", "Not Alone Anymore", "Heading For The Light", and "Rattled". The whole album was great though!

George's idea really fooled me! When I heard of Volume 3, I thought it was their third album, and did go scrambling around stores for a Volume 2 with no luck. When I realized it was weird how I couldn't even find any info about their second album on the Internet, I saw that quote and it explained everything! LOL!!! I forgive him for tricking us though! Very funny! Tom Petty had a great sense of humor too! He seemed like such a nice guy! He certainly will be missed. But in my ever optimistic way, I try to think of his untimely departure as him just joining a jam session up there with buddies George and Roy! :-)

Interesting bit of trivia:

They all used fake nicknames:

Bob Dylan was "Lucky" Wilbury
George Harrison was "Nelson" Wilbury
Jeff Lynne was "Otis" Wilbury
Roy Orbison was "Lefty" Wilbury
and Tom Petty was "Charles T. Jr."

For the Volume 3 album,

George became "Spike",
and Jeff Clayton, Tom Muddy, and Bob ("Boo") all list their last names as Wilbury.

One of the greatest supergroups ever formed!!!

I saw this on the news and wanted to share it here. So cool! 90 thousand people at a football game sang along to "I Won't Back Down" in Tom Petty's home state of Florida! Wow!!! Amazing tribute!!!

Hey Sadie! I found this from a blog, that was written in 2015. About the Traveling Wilburys . It's a long read, but I think you'll enjoy it! :-)

What happens when you combine rock’s best lyricist, a production genius, a Southern rocker, the smoothest voice in the business, and the “Quiet Beatle”? Luckily for you, dusty old rock fans, George Harrison once endeavored to find out. After 10 years locked in a recording studio with his fellow Beatles, Harrison followed up 1969 with an isolated solo career. By the late 80’s, the Quiet Beatle, who had always been fairly disillusioned with the music business, wanted to find a happy medium: a band with musicians that shared his style, sense of humor, and maybe a few ukeleles. After some chance meetings, one hurricane, and a little magic The Traveling Wilburys were born. The Wilbury brothers truly consisted of the legend Bob Dylan, former Electric Light Orchestra front man and producer Jeff Lynne, young Southern-rocker Tom Petty, crooner Roy Orbison, and Harrison himself, who joined forces to produce two platinum albums and a super-group legacy.

"The Fake Nicknames you mentioned" :

The origin of the Traveling Wilburys has long been shrouded in mystery.” Mo Astin” tells us that, “The original Wilburys were a stationary people who, realizing that their civilization could not stand still forever, began to go for short walks – not the ‘traveling’ as we now know it but certainly as far as the corner and back.” Eventually a sophisticated musical culture emerged, and the Wilburys traveled far and wide to share their good vibes with the world. The majority, however, fell victim to night club owners and record executives (just like Petty’s “Into the Great Wide Open” hero Eddie), and their optimistic melodies slunk into the disgusting shadows of the music business. As the legend goes, a few Wilbury brothers survived to carry on the legend of the Wilbury groove. These Wilbury brothers were all born of different mothers but one notorious, drunken father: Charles T. Wilbury Sr. One brother immortalized his father with this genuine thought: “Some said daddy was a cad and a boulder, but I remember him as a Baptist minister.” The five brothers consisted of Nelson (Harrison), Lucky (Dylan), Otis (Lynne), Lefty (Orbison) and Charles T. Wilbury Jr. (Petty). The adventures these nomadic brothers shared are those of legend, and are said to live on in their songs. Even today, “The message of the music travels, as indeed they traveled.”

In all actuality, the super-group the Traveling Wilburys formed completely by chance. In 1987, George Harrison had recruited Jeff Lynne to help him produce his new album Cloud Nine after a five-year break from the music business. Meanwhile, Tom Petty and his backing band The Heartbreakers were touring internationally with Bob Dylan. While in London on the last tour stop, Jeff (who was producing Petty’s most successful album Full Moon Fever) stopped by for a visit, the elusive George Harrison in tow. “It was funny – that first night we were in London, when we had that great time, a hurricane hit. In London,” Petty remembered. “I always thought that had something to do with changing my life. This literal hurricane.” The next night was Petty’s birthday and, to his delight, George and Jeff returned with a cake. The three instantly formed a bond. “You know, I’m not going to let you out of my life now,” George told Tom matter-of-factly, as he handed him a demo of his new album Cloud Nine. “Let me know what you think, alright?” That night, with four Wilburys in one city, the groundwork was laid for the group’s conception.
