Thanks for fixing it BeatleBob! I didn't realize it til you posted the new one! I even thought that Sadie meant she didn't agree with the 1964 list, but agrees with the 1958 list! LOL!

I also found out "tongue-in-cheek" means not being serious, but I said it's serious! Which one do I mean?! I'm kinda mad Buckley put down The Beatles, but he put every other "boy band" down after that! I do see how people can refer to early Beatles as a boy band, but after that, they were regarded as true artists! Not only were they pop song makers, but their music evolved in all ways - touching all music bases, with rock, pop, experimental, baroque, classical, psychedelic, etc!

There are songs I find annoying, but saying there are "worst songs" of a certain decade is probably why I can't take these lists seriously! LOL, he even found these recordings from the vault, or something!

You're Welcome for fixing it Candy O!!! :-)

LOL!!!  ;-)
Well, you could take it both ways with "Buckley"!! Not being serious, or serious! LOL! ;-)
You're So Right about what you said about the Beatles!!! And also, how you see how people can refer to early Beatles as a boy band too. I Totally Agree about all you said about the Beatles after that!!!!

Yeah, I can't  take these lists seriously either!! LOL!
I wonder what vault he's talking about? LOL!! ;-)

I always thought the term "tongue in cheek" means when you want to laugh at something but are trying not to, so your tongue presses against your cheek? I always hated the term "boy band" because it usually refers to a stupid group of young guy singers that don't even play instruments (so why the word "band"?!) nor write their own songs and are more showmanship oriented (the little girl demographic makes up the majority of their fanbase, and the group is more focused on looking good than making good music. For example: "One Direction". Ugh!) The Beatles were definitely never a "boy band" in that sense! Not even in their early days. Although they obviously did have somewhat of a marketing sense towards a female audience in the beginning, it was always mainly about the music, which they always wrote themselves. So no, definitely not a "boy band", in my opinion. I do think it's safe to say they could be considered more like "pop" artists at first and then eventually developed into rock stars though. Thanks for the warning about not watching that 1964 Bad Songs video. I don't need to get any more debatable! Lol! :-)

Sadie, your thought about "tongue in cheek" sounds very reasonable!! And I Agree with you about the term "Boy Band"!! LOL!!! And Yes, for example "One Direction"!! LOL!! I Certainly Agree with Everything you said here about The Beatles!!!!! :-)
LOL!!!! About not watching that 1964 Bad Songs video!! ;-)

Rolling Stone's Greatest Songwriters of All Time

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/100-greatest-songwriters

Can you guess the Top 3?

I knew who #1 was going to be, but I'm really happy that the editors chose #2 & #3 :)

I never agreed with Rolling Stone magazine's editor choices. Even when they do put The Beatles at the top of a list (I remember when they said "Sgt. Pepper" was the best album ever, and not just from The Beatles, but in general) and I disagreed, although I was glad they let The Beatles top the list. At least they got that part right! Eventhough the particular album they ranked tops I didn't quite agree with. I'd probably say "The White Album" although that might not qualify since it's also considered 2 albums? lol! They had it at #10. I really need to listen to more Dylan to see for myself what all the hype over him is about! I've only heard a few songs of his so far. Sorry Rolling Stone mag, but I strongly believe that Lennon or McCartney should definitely be #1 on that list, not Bob Dylan. But everyone's entitled to their own opinion and I respect that. :-)

Candy O!! So COOL!! I figured Dylan would be #1. I was Really Happy that Paul was #2 and John was # 3. GREAT!!!  :-) Thanks so much for posting this!! :-)

Sadie, I think the reason for picking "Sgt. Pepper" was because it was such a Phenomenon that so many musicians and musicologists world wide celebrated it for what it was for it's time in 1967. I thought the White Album, Abbey Road, Revolver, and Rubber Soul were better albums. Although I Like quite a few songs on "Sgt. Pepper" too!! But "Sgt. Pepper" was such a Break Through Masterpiece for it's time!! I was Blown Away by it when it first came out!! Their look, the music, etc, it was So Exciting!! I think it was the same way for many people, and I think that's why they chose it to be the best album ever, and not just from The Beatles, but in general. Dylan was The Quintessential songwriter for so many people!! And he also reflected the 60's perfectly through his lyrics and had a lot of influence on other songwriters to come! Lennon and McCartney loved him too. I don't always agree with Rolling Stone magazine's editor choices. But, I think they got the Top 3 Right. ;-)

Hey Beatlebob! Thanks for explaining why you think they ranked Sgt Pepper as the best album of all time! Makes sense now! It really was groundbreaking for those times! When I think of The Beatles transition point, it's definitely Sgt. Pepper. Although Rubber Soul is when they first starting changing a bit, Sgt. Pepper is definitely when they changed alot! :-)

Rubber Soul & Revolver have always been my favorite Beatles albums because they both gave a hint of the exciting changes to come while still sounding a bit like the earlier Beatles! I guess I was trying to compare it among other Beatles albums, Oops I forgot basically ANYTHING The Beatles did is better than all other artist's material. So even if Sgt. Pepper isn't exactly their best album in my opinion it could still easily be the #1 album on a list just because anything they did automatically ranks tops. LOL ;-)

I plan on listening to some more Dylan tonight! From what I've heard already, I can tell he was an amazing songwriter!

:-)

You're Welcome Sadie!! It was just my thoughts about Why they ranked Sgt Pepper as the best album of all time! It Sure was Groundbreaking for Those times!

"When I think of The Beatles transition point, it's definitely Sgt. Pepper. Although Rubber Soul is when they first starting changing a bit, Sgt. Pepper is definitely when they changed alot! :-)"

I Certainly Agree!!!! :-)

Rubber Soul, Revolver, and Abbey Road have always been My favorite Beatles albums!! Although I Loved all of them!! :-) You're Right about Rubber Soul & Revolver both giving us a hint of the exciting changes to come!! While still sounding a bit like the earlier Beatles!! From reading what you posted on Wednesday and what you just said, I see why you were trying to compare it among other Beatles albums. And I Agree ANYTHING The Beatles did is better than all other artist's material as far as I'm concerned too!!

"So even if Sgt. Pepper isn't exactly their best album in my opinion it could still easily be the #1 album on a list just because anything they did automatically ranks tops. LOL ;-)"

I AGREE!!!!! LOL!  ;-)

I see you plan on listening to some more Dylan. Yes, he was an amazing songwriter!! You might want to check out some songs from the following albums:
Highway 61 Revisited, The Freewheelin, The Times They Are A-Changin', Blonde on Blonde, John Wesley Harding, and Bringing It All Back Home, are some Great albums. Some Great songs on those albums!!

:-)
